Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) provide information on the energy efficiency of a property.
They had been introduced as part of Home Information packs and although the latter has been abolished, the requirement for an EPC remains.
When is an EPC required?
EPCs are now required on all residential premises which are sold or rented. The following do not require an EPC when they are built, rented or sold:
-
Places of worship
-
Temporary buildings that will be used for less than 2 years
-
Stand alone buildings which are less than 50 square meters in size and are not used for living accommodation
-
Industrial sites, workshops and non-agricultural buildings with a low energy demand
EPCs are also required on the sale or letting of a commercial premises.
How much does an EPC cost?
The price of an EPC will vary but is usually between £60–£80.
Where can I obtain an EPC?
