The Government has indicated that they would consider introducing a legal presumption of shared parenting.

Children's minister Tim Loughton has said that the government is 'looking closely at all the options for promoting shared parenting through legislative and non-legislative means'.

In reply, Naomi Angell, Consultant solicitor at Osbornes Solicitors LLP and co-chair of the Law Society's Family Law Committee said that the committee would oppose any proposal to do so.

Naomi commented that whilst the committee supports the idea of maintaining contact with both parents where safe to do so - the right to contact should be viewed from the child's perspective.
