Tomfoolery at workplace results in “substantial” personal injury compensation settlement

A compensation settlement has been agreed following the case of a man who seriously injured his back at work after his colleagues jumped on him.

Mr Jones, 46, was bending over to pick up a tool when a colleague jumped on his back as a joke.

The injury Mr Jones suffered was so sever that he required corrective surgery, which involved removing a piece of bone from his hip and inserting it into his spine. Following the operation Mr Jones still suffered from excruciating back pain and was on long term leave from work for a period of four years, until he was made redundant. Mr Jones has been told by his GP that the chances of him ever working again are extremely slim.

Mr Jones brought an action against his employers on the basis that they were responsible for his colleague’s behaviour. The firm admitted liability and an undisclosed substantial settlement was agreed upon.
