Construction firm fined after members of public injured

A construction firm has been fined after two members of the public were injured when panelling blew of the roof of a building and on to the pavement below.

A woman in her 80s who was walking past was hit so hard by the panelling that her foot was almost severed. Another man suffered severe bruising after being hit. As well as these passers-by a number of cars were also hit by the material during the incident.

Magistrates heard that Brendan Flynn Construction Ltd, who were working on the building project had not used the correct nails to  secure the cladding. The company admitted liability and were fined £8,000 as well as being ordered to pay costs of £14,760.
