A car passenger who was left with a serious head injury when the car friend was driving crashed into a street sign has received more than £1.6m in damages.

The driver lost control of the car whilst attempting to make an overtaking manoeuvre which resulted in the car colliding with a sign post. The metal post struck the car immediately at the point where the passenger was seated, leading to very serious head injuries.

After a lengthy period of time in hospital  it became clear that although the man recovered all of his physical function, the accident had a dramatic effect on his ability to exercise self-control.

The man began making rash decisions and acting without due though to the consequence of his actions or to his safety. Such impulsive behaviour meant that day-to0day tasks such as budgeting, going to work were overlooked, delayed or simply dismissed.

The Court approved a settlement whereby the man was awarded £1.63m in compensation.
