Ladder fall victim receives £24,000 in personal injury compensation

A fitter who fell more than 15 feet from a ladder has won compensation of more than £24,000.

In the course of securing covers to the top of a large tank, the ladder which the man was standing on slipped therefore causing him to fall to the ground. The severity of the fall was such that the man suffered a spinal fracture and soft tissue injuries to his legs, back and hips. The nature of his injuries meant that he was unable to return to work and it was necessary for him to find work of a less physical nature. 

The man’s personal life was also adversely affected, whereas previous to the fall he had enjoyed walking and visiting sites of historic interest, DIY and gardening; following the fall these activities became impossible for him to engage in.

A claim for compensation was brought on the grounds that the man’s employer had not taken necessary measures to ensure the safety of all employees. The firm admitted liability.
