- Injured passenger receives compensation after car accident
A man who suffered severe multiple injuries when the car he was a passenger in hit a row of stationary vehicles has received £250,000 in compensation.
The man, 48, was travelling as a front seat passenger when the driver lost control and collided with the parked cars. On impact the man was knocked unconscious and cannot remember anything about the accident itself.
The man's lungs had totally collapsed and he was airlifted to hospital with seven rib fractures, flail chest, severe chest wall trauma, a fractured vertebrae, lacerations to his liver and haemorrhaging around his heart.
The man who remained in hospital for three weeks, had numerous emergency operations to save his life and overcame persistent infections. On leaving hospital it was necessary for the man to move in with a family member. In the months following the accident the man has suffered considerable pain and discomfort to his chest and lower back, which is worsened if he attempts to pick up, lift or push even light weight objects.
The man lost his livelihood and is now unable to carry out any physical work.
The compensation will go toward his continued care as he adjusts to his radically altered life.
