Horse rider who collided with man wins personal injury compensation
An experienced horse rider who collided with a van in 2002 has been awarded £87,400 in damages.
Ms Stoddart was 14 when she collided with the van whilst riding her horse. The horse rolled onto Ms Stoddart causing her permanent damage to her pelvis, meaning that at some point in the future she is likely to need a hip replacement.
When the case first came to court Ms Stoddart and the van driver were found to be equally at fault in causing the accident. The driver of the van appealed however, claiming that she should be more to blame for the accident. The Court of Appeal upheld the apportion of blame that the court initially found and Ms Stoddart was awarded £87,400 in damages.
Interestingly figures show that 100 traffic accidents each year involve individuals riding a horse.
