Food poisoning on holiday results in compensation

A holidaymaker who contracted food poisoning whilst on holiday in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt has received compensation from the tour operator with whom he travelled with.

Towards the end of the first week of his two week stay at the resort the man began having symptoms such as shivering and high temperature as well as a severely upset stomach. Initially he thought the symptoms were as a result of sun stroke, however the illness continued into the second week of his holiday.

On his return to the UK he underwent tests and his doctor confirmed that he was suffering from Salmonella. The solicitor acting for the holidaymaker negotiated a settlement of £2,450 due to the severity of his symptoms. Initially the holidaymaker had tried obtaining compensation by contacting the tour operator directly, however this resulted in the offer of only a £500 voucher.
