Fatality caused in road traffic accident with a pedestrian

The family of a woman who was struck and killed by a reversing refuse truck have been awarded £250,000 in compensation for her death.

The truck, operated by Team Waste (Southern) Ltd, was found not to be in full working order as the trucks rear CCTV was defective. The reversing siren was turned off (as the driver was unaware he was allowed to use this alarm before 7am) and the driver had reversed without the assistance of a "banksman", which was against the firm’s operating policy.

Team Waste (Southern) Ltd was found to have failed in their responsibility to implement there own risk assessment and were fined £250,000
