A construction firm has been fined £13,000 and ordered to pay costs after an accident at work which left an employee with severe burns.

The worker suffered burns to his hands, arms, face and chest after drilling through concrete and piercing a 415 volt cable. Following an investigation into the accident it became clear that the construction firm had failed to establish the location of the cable before instructing the worker to carry out the drilling.

As a result of the accident the worker is now unable to continue his career as a welder.
