According to a new report by e-sure car insurance 8.9 million Brits admit to damaging a parked car and driving off.
Out of those surveyed twenty-six per cent said that they have accidentally damaged a parked vehicle and then driven off without owning up to it. Fourteen per cent admitted to fleeing the scene because they did not want the hassle of exchanging details whilst thirteen per cent drove off due to panicking.
The survey results also highlighted that twenty-seven per cent of Brits would flee from the scene if they know that they were not being watched with another twenty-two per cent admitting that they only owned up to the damage because someone else saw the accident. However, fifteen per cent of those surveyed have been caught out as although they had not owned up they were spotted on CCTV cameras and later traced whilst thirteen per cent had not realised that a witness had taken down their registration number.
The results of the survey enabled the researches to conclude that men are more accident prone with forty-nine per cent admitting to scraping a parked car compared to just thirty-six per cent of women. Men also proved to be the most dishonest sex with thirty-three per cent revealing that they had driven away after bumping into another vehicle compared to just eighteen per cent of women.
Sticking with dishonesty, London proved to be the most dishonest region with sixty-nine per cent of Londoners admitting to driving away after damaging a vehicle.
Thankfully a parked car is usually empty so nobody is likely to get injured, however if you have been involved in a road traffic accident, either as a driver where the accident was not your fault, as a passenger, perhaps in another car or on board a bus, as a pedestrian or as a cyclist then you may be entitled to receive compensation for any injuries you sustained.
