After gaining valuable experience as a property lawyer in the City Jan joined Osbornes in 1990 and was able to develop her interest in Wills, Probate and Trusts work and now specialises exclusively in this area of law. She heads up a seven strong team at Osbornes and continues to develop her expertise in the private client field. A significant part of her work now comprises disputed probate cases.
Jan is a registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and a Registered Contentious Trust & Probate Specialist (C.T.A.P.S.). She is well known in her chosen area in part as a result of her active role as a member of the Law Society Probate Section Executive Committee. She is also a member of the London Central branch of STEP and a member of the Association of Contentious Trust & Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).
Jan writes on Wills and Inheritance issues and is a contributor to Sweet and Maxwell’s ‘Cohabitation’, as the co-author of the chapter on Inheritance and Succession. She is also an occasional presenter on this subject.
Her most rewarding cases are intricate estate administrations and successful Inheritance Act claims on behalf of clients who have not been properly provided for on the death of a close relative or partner.
Outside the office Jan spends much of her time riding her horse and playing tennis – she doesn’t like to lose!
