Injunctions/domestic violence

If you or your children are subjected to domestic violence we would advise you to act quickly, take steps to protect yourself, report all incidents to the police and seek legal advice if civil action is necessary.

We can advise you on whether to seek the following orders:

  • Non Molestation Order- this may be appropriate to protect you and your children from violence and threats of violence from a partner or cohabitee. It may be appropriate to seek this in cases of pestering, such as if you are receiving abusive text messages or repeated telephone calls in the middle of the night and where the Protection from Harassment Act is not sufficient.
  • Occupation Order- this may exclude the other party from your home and/or the immediate surrounding area or other designated place when the violence and/or threats are very serious.

We can act quickly in these cases and apply to the court within one day, without the other party knowing, to obtain an order to protect you and/or your children. If you are entitled to public funding, we may be able to secure funding on a same day basis, where an urgent application to the court is necessary.

We will liaise closely with our housing department if the issues in your case  require their help.

  • National Domestic Violence 24hr Helpline: 0808 2000 247
  • Camden Safety Net is a domestic violence project set up to support anyone affected by domestic violence who lives in Camden. They offer advice and referrals to seek assistance for housing, benefits, counselling and help for children affected.
